Der Volksaufstand vom 17. Juni 1953 brachte eine Wende in der europäischen Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Erst in seiner Folge ereigneten sich die ungarische Revolution, der Prager Frühling und die Gründung der freien Gewerkschaft Solidarnosc in Polen. Der Volksaufstand vom 17. Juni war die erste Massenerhebung gegen den Sowjetkommunismus. In mehr als 700 Städten und Dör-fern der DDR gingen die Menschen auf die Straße, um ihr Recht auf Freiheit und Demokratie zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Der Freiheitswille war stärker als die Angst vor den Machthabern. Die Bedeu-tung des Volksaufstandes vom 17. Juni 1953 wird in unserem Museum stets hervorgehoben. Auch die Eröffnung unseres Museums vor 56 Jahren widmete sein Gründer, Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt, dem Volksaufstand vom 17. Juni 1953, indem er diese anlässlich des 10. Jahrestages des Volks-aufstandes stattfinden ließ.
Wir verneigen uns vor den Helden des Volksaufstandes vom 17. Juni 1953.

The popular uprising of June 17th, 1953, brought a turning point in European history of the 20th century. Only subsequently, the Hungarian revolution, the Prague Spring and the founding of the free trade union Solidarnosc in Poland came about. The popular uprising of June 17th was the first mass uprising against Soviet communism. In more than 700 cities and villages of the GDR, people went out into the streets to express their right to freedom and democracy. The desire for freedom was stronger than the fear of the rulers. The significance of the popular uprising of June 17th, 1953 is always emphasized in our museum. The founder, Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt, also dedicated the opening of our museum 56 years ago to the popular uprising of June 17th, 1953, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the popular uprising.
